West China Handicrafts Tour

The west China is mountainous and vast, and was hard for outsiders to invade in the old days.Many people here still keep their traditional ways of life,though some traditions are disappearing very fast due to the Internet using.On the tour we will visit some remote areas to see local arts and crafts.

Day 1 – Arrive in Xi’ an, city tour if time permits.

Day 2 –Tongchuan city for porcelain making, where local people have been making porcelain for more than 1,400 years. Terra Cotta Warriors on the way back.

Day 3 – Fuping Town for pottery making, pottery museums. Back to Xian for free time in the afternoon.

Day 4 – Drive Xian to Tianshui. Maijishan Grottoes in the afternoon ,one of the best in China.

Day 5 – Tianshui to Xiahe Town where ethnic Tibetans live. Visit Roof Animal making on the way.

Day 6 – Visit Labrang Monastery, the biggest Buddhist college in the world, and the villages around.

Day 7 – Xiahe to Tongren in Qinghai Province. Visit Regong Village for traditional Tibetan Tangka and mural Paintings.

Day 8 – Tongren to Xining, capital of Qinghai Province. Visit the tenth Panchen Lama’s old residence, and the birth place of the 14th Dalai Mama.

Day 9 – Xining Dongguan Mosque, one of the biggest mosques in China. The Leather Embroidery making which has a history of 3000 years.

Day 10 – Fly Xining to Chengdu, city tour in the afternoon. Jingli, the base of Sichuan Silk in the old days.

Day 11 – Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center. Silk embroidery workshop. Grass weaving in Baihesi.

Day 12 – Bamboo wares making in Qingsheng city. New Year Painting village in Mianzhu city. Going back to Chengdu and Sichuan Opera in the evening.

Day 13 – Fly Chengdu to Lijiang in Yunnan province. Old town of Lijiang, which is a world heritage site.

Day 14 – Lijiang to Shangri-la. Tiger Leaping Gorge en route. Songzanlin Monastery in the afternoon.

Day 15 – Shangri-la to Shigu Town by the Yangtze River. Nixi Village for black pottery. Wood wares making in Shangqiaotou.

Day 16 – Shigu to Heqing, which is well known for its silver and copper wares made by hands. Visit the village and the workshops.

Day 17 – Heqing to Dali. Visit Songgui Village for traditional paper making, Zhoucheng Village for tie-die batik and weaving.

Day 18 – Dali marble factoryin the morning. Fly to Kunming the capital of Yunnan Province. Minority Museum in the afternoon, enjoy the wonderful arts of 25 ethnic groups in Yunnan.

Day 19 – Leave Kunming for home.
