The Route of Long March Tour

The Red Army began the Long March in October 1934 to escape the encirclement and pursuit of the KMT troops. They walked more than 12,000km in a year with many fierce battles against the KMT army, from Jiangxi province to Shannxi province, crossing great rivers and high mountains.We are following the main route of the Long March on the tour by bus, plane and high-speed train.

Day 1 – Arrive in Xiamen city in Fujian.

Day 2 – Xiamen to Yongding. Traditional round earth buildings, a world heritage site.

Day 3 – Yongding to Ruijin town in Jiangxi Province, the capital of the Soviet Government before the Long March, visit former soviet government departments. Changting Old Town with ancient walls.

Day 4 – Ruijing to Ganzhou. Floating Bridge Yugutai and Bajingtai by Ganjiang River.

Day 5 – Ganzhou to Kaili. Kaili is the center of Miao (Meng) ethnic people in China, visit Miao village with stilt houses and Wind & Rain bridges. Ziquejie terraced fields, one of the biggest in China.

Day 6 – Kaili Miao (Meng) people’s village. Stone bridge village where local people make paper by hand. Dashizi Market.

Day 7 – Kaili to Qingyan Old Town, the best preserved Song Dynasty city walls in South China.

Day 8 – Qingyan to Zhunyi where the Red Army had a very important meeting and made Chairman Mao the top leader of the communist party, an important step for the Red Army during the Long March. Maotai old town famous for the best liquor in China.

Day 9 – Zhunyi to Chishui town where the Red Army fought many battles during the long march. Chishui is also a world heritage site, and famous for waterfalls. Bingan old town and visit. Hailongtun Fort, built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 CE).

Day 10 – Chishui to Zhaotong in Yunnan Provance which is famous for black necked cranes; Weixin town on the way. Weixin was the area where the Army reformed and became more powerful.

Day 11 – Zhaotong to Xichang. Xichang is one of the three important rocket launching centers of China, and also the center of Yi Minority people. Qionghai Lake where the Red Army chief formed an alliance with the local chief of the Yi people during the Long March in 1935.

Day 12 – Xichang to Hailuogou National Park on the foot of Gongga Mountain, the highest in the Hengduanshan mountain system with a peak of 7556 meters. On the way, visit the port at Dadu River ( a great tributary of the Yangtze) where the Red Army had a famous battle crossing the river.

Day 13 – Hailuogou National Park, see the glaciers on chairlifts.

Day 14 – Hailuogou to Ya’an. Ya’an was the place where people first found the giant pandas in the 19th century. Shangli Old Town where we still see many Red Army slogans.

Day 15 – Ya’an to Chengdu. City tour in the afternoon and Sichuan Opera in the evening.

Day 16 – In the morning visit Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center, the biggest in China with 80 pandas. Fly to Xi’an in the afternoon, city tour.

Day 17 – Visit Xi’an in the morning, take bullet train to Yan’an, where the Red Army finished the Long March. Wangjiaping old office of the Red Army and the museum. Zaoyuan. Yang Jailing old residence of the Red Army.

Day 18 – Yan’an back to Xi’an and trip ends.
